Holiday Traditions

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Holidays can be a wonderful time of the year as well as a stressful one.  Growing up, my family moved a lot and there were very little traditions that we kept.  As I got older and my family grew, I knew that I wanted that to be different for my little ones, so as the years go by our small, family traditions grow and are more embedded into our family holiday traditions.  I want to share some of our traditions and what we try to do every year!

Thanksgiving starts our first tradition.  I always cook for my family (even with newborn twins!) My mom and in-laws come over as well as my sister.  I invite others, but every year is different as to who joins us.

Typically our Christmas Tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving.  This year we didn't get a chance to put it up until about a week after (which is totally ok!) And we started a new tradition! My older boys decorated the tree all by themselves! How awesome! Also, our middle son "M" got to put the start on top of the tree.

We put together an Advent Calendar.  I typically write out all the activities we are going to do and we count down to Christmas (AKA Baby Jesus' birthday!!)

We are close to NYC and started to go see the Rockefeller Tree every year (this happens anytime between Thanksgiving and New Year's).

Christmas Eve we have dinner at my mother's house.

Christmas Day I make a lovely breakfast and also cook for my family.

New Year's Eve, we have a special meal that we eat.  I make steak, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, asparagus, and lobster tail.  Its AMAZING! We also make sure that all our dirty laundry is done (its a small superstition but we go with it!)

New Year's Day I make a nice breakfast for everyone and start the year off right!

I love our traditions and hope that we continue to pass them on to our little ones, and they start making their own traditions too!

So, what are some of you and your family's traditions?

I am collaborating with Kym from Inspire My Creativity Blog! Check out her latest Christmas post HERE!

  1. It's all about traditions! I love the idea to write down activities as part of your advent calendar, how fun!
